We teach all styles of music, and our goal is to give every student the tools needed to rock on stage and in life! We believe that playing music is not just about technical skills, but also about performing and sharing your passion with others. Rock 101 music program in Tomball for kids and beginners
Rock 101
Ages 8-13

Rock 101 is one of School of Rock Champion Forest's top programs for kids and beginners. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn to play classic rock songs that have been simplified for beginner musicians. Additionally, Rock 101 students in Champion Forest have a weekly private music lesson with an instructor who helps them learn the concepts and skills behind their performance songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our music programs for kids in Tomball are designed to get students on stage performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency. Younger students at School of Rock Champion Forest who have participated in the Rookies program can move to our Rock 101 music program once they’re ready. Additionally, students (typically ages 8 to 13-years-old) can begin Rock 101 without any prior experience. The goal of this rock program is to quickly develop a basic competence on students’ chosen instruments before moving on to our famous Performance Program.

The Performance Program at School of Rock Champion Forest is our hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. It consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, refining the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, School of Rock Champion Forest Performance Program students take the stage and play at local Tomball music venues in front of a live audience.

The Path to Take the Stage

School of Rock Champion Forest's music programs for kids and teens are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing. All of our other music education programs focus on readying students for our famous Performance Program. This is where students develop incredible musical skills. Performance Program students have often gone through our Rock 101 program first or have some previous basic music experience. These young musicians will have custom development plans outlined by their instructors with key concepts reinforced during private lessons and group rehearsals, all with the goal of performing live at a Tomball music venue.

Rookies
Ages 6-7

At School of Rock Champion Forest, our music program for children with no previous musical experience (typically ages 6 to 7-years-old) is called Rookies. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson where they learn fundamentals like chords, rhythm and song structure. Kids get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments so they can later decide which one they ultimately want to continue pursuing in Rock 101.

The Path to Take the Stage

All of our music programs are designed to inspire students to learn and develop a strong musical proficiency. At School of Rock Champion Forest, younger students who are not ready for a more comprehensive program like Rock 101 can start in Rookies. Additionally, students who have completed the Little Wing program will progress into the Rookies music program. No prior musical experience is needed for Rookies. Once your child is ready for private music lessons (typically older than first or second graders), they will graduate into our Rock 101 program.

At School of Rock Champion Forest our Little Wing music program for preschoolers and toddlers teaches students foundational music skills by playing games and participating in other interactive musical activities. Little Wing students have one weekly group music lesson in which they use classic rock songs to learn about rhythm, song structure, melody and dynamics through play.

The Path to Take the Stage

The Little Wing music program is the first step in a young musician's journey. At School of Rock Champion Forest, toddlers and preschoolers who show an interest in music should start with Little Wing. As they get older, they will progress into the Rookies program, followed by Rock 101 and the Performance Program.

Songwriting
Age 12 and over

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens teaches the fundamentals of songwriting, arrangement and music theory, and helps students compose original works.  At School of Rock Champion Forest, songwriting students receive one weekly private lesson where they learn concepts, technique and theory on an instrument of their choice. These principles are then applied in a weekly group lesson where students work together on songwriting exercises and lyrical workshops.  Every few months, Songwriting students take the stage to perform or band together to record their original songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens in Houston is designed to create musical proficiency through the creation of original music. Students at School of Rock Champion Forest who have completed our Rock 101 program can move to our Songwriting program once they’re ready. Additionally, new students who have prior experience with and basic knowledge of an instrument can also begin Songwriting. The program culminates with a live showcase where students perform their original compositions in bands at a local music venue. Students taking the Songwriting Program online will remotely record their original songs to produce a demo of the class's music.

At School of Rock Champion Forest, our students can take online, one-on-one music instruction from the comfort of their homes. We call this program School of Rock Remote. This online music program contains weekly one-on-one instruction conducted by our expert School of Rock instructors in a safe virtual lesson room.
 
Students will receive their training using our proprietary education program, The School of Rock Method™, which couples live video lessons with our proprietary Method App™, SongFirst Approach™ and Method Books™.

School of Rock Champion Forest's Adult Program is for students over 18 years old who are looking to either improve their musical proficiency or pick up an instrument with no prior musical experience. As with most School of Rock music programs, the Adult Program uses a performance-based music education approach. This means the curriculum focuses on learning music concepts and applying them in a live performance setting. Our Adult Music Program includes one weekly private music lesson and a weekly group rehearsal. Every student at School of Rock Champion Forest is placed in a band of fellow adults and then assigned specific songs as a way of learning key music concepts and skills. Adult students then take the stage to play at a live show in Tomball.

The School of Rock Champion Forest Adult Program is open to all experience levels and each student will follow a customized learning plan developed by their instructor. Adult students will work together during rehearsal to prepare for a live performance at a real rock venue in Tomball.

The School of Rock Champion Forest House Band music program gives students under 18 the opportunity to join a gigging band composed of fellow musicians from their school. These students perform additional live shows throughout the year. All students in the Performance Program have the opportunity to audition for a spot in School of Rock Champion Forest's House Band. Once selected, House Band members become leaders in their School of Rock community and perform live shows at TX rock venues throughout the year.

The Path to Take the Stage

Performance is the core of School of Rock's educational approach. Therefore, we create additional opportunities for students to perform on stages throughout Tomball and the rest of TX. The House Band music program allows each school's most talented students the opportunity to join a band and play routinely in front of live audiences. Once a member, students will gain real music experience associated with gigging musicians and will become leaders and mentors inside the School of Rock community.

Age 17 and Under

The School of Rock AllStars Tour takes the very best students from around the world and sends them on a nationwide summer tour across the United States. Less than 1% of School of Rock students are selected each year to represent School of Rock as an AllStar. All Performance Program students are eligible to audition for this prestigious program. The intensive audition process starts off with video submissions followed by live auditions. Once selected, AllStar students will have an authentic touring experience including traveling on a tour bus, doing tour publicity and starring in nightly performances at famous venues and festivals during a two-week tour.

Becoming an AllStar is the highest level of achievement for a School of Rock student. They play on legendary stages large and small, including The Knitting Factory, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Troubadour and Lollapalooza. AllStar students often go on to have accomplished careers in the music industry. Former AllStars have gone on to become touring artists, star in Broadway musicals, get signed to record deals, become finalists on talent competitions like "The Voice" and "American Idol" and have other notable roles in the music industry.

Beginner Keyboard Lessons for Kids

At School of Rock we teach differently than other music schools in Tomball. Our curriculum is performance-based, meaning that we prepare students to perform. Our piano lessons for beginners combine weekly private instruction with weekly band rehearsals. At School of Rock Champion Forest, our beginner keyboard lessons for kids take key concepts and music fundamentals—finger placement, scales, key differentiation and more—and teach them through popular rock songs. Co-owner
Jeremy is the General Manager for the School of Rock Clear Lake and Owner/General Manager of the School of Rock Sugar Land and Champion Forest locations. He has been a professional musician for 30 years, is a current Berklee student, has played over 3,000 shows and concerts and is fluent on bass, guitar and drums. He is a freelance bassist, session musician and producer for many studios and artists, one of them being the eight-time "Billboard" charting R&B artist J Metro. In 2013 they toured Africa, headlining jazz festivals and teaching master classes at schools as part of an arts-envoy program for the United States Government. You can also find Jeremy on tour with soul country artist David Grace or his band Moses Guest that has been together for 24 years and recently completed their eighth album! Several songs from Moses Guest have also been featured on MTV's popular show "The Real World." They've opened for several great artists, such as The Steve Miller Band, Willie Nelson, Jewel, Tower of Power, Jerry Garcia Band and many more. Jeremy comes from a musical family. His mother is a pianist and vocalist, while his dad is a bassist, guitarist and vocalist. Jeremy’s ultimate goal is to pay it forward by giving young inspiring artists something that will be with them forever, and to bring them the same joy that has filled his life with great satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment.

Dennis is a Houston native who began playing drums at a young age, influenced by the musicianship he inherited from his late grandfather. Dennis never missed an opportunity to drum throughout middle school and high school. He began learning music theory in high school and won numerous awards during his time in high school while being the drum line captain along with playing one of the top jazz bands ensemble.

Dennis continued to pursue and master his rudimental drumming by touring with Drum Corps International and Winter Guard International. He has played hundreds of shows from small local pubs to crowded stadiums! He has written and produced original music for multiple bands along with teaching at different high schools. With a multitude of knowledge in all genres, Dennis is pumped to share his understanding with his students and inspire them to forge their passions. He will focus on enhancing your strengths and overcoming your weaknesses.

Doxey began exploring his love for music when he was very young. At 12 he began learning piano and vocals and since then has added guitar, bass, ukulele, drums and saxophone to his range of instruments.

Doxey has been teaching and directing with School of Rock since 2012 and was a School of Rock Continental Tour Director in 2018. His love for music spans many genres and decades but he loves most of all Funk and Alternative Rock.

Doxey began actively playing in small local bands at the age of 18 and since then has played almost every role in the various bands he was in throughout college and the years that followed. Doxey was the drummer for the Tomball based Jazz Ensemble the Orange Bursts from 2018 -2020 and sang Tenor in the Tomball LSC choir.

Currently he is the keyboardist and backing guitarist for the Houston Tx Funk/Jazz Fusion band Kodon.

Andrew started his obsession with music when he was 3 years old. When he got his first drum set, music became so much more. Andrew started forming bands and playing shows in high school, sharing the stage with regional and national acts on multiple occasions. He spent years touring, studio sessions, and writing music with bands.

More recently, Andrew has built a studio and learned guitar, bass, recording, mixing and mastering. He has written some records and has helped local bands by working on producing records.

Sean Harrold has been performing around Houston and surrounding areas for well over 30+ years now.Born in the late 60's, raised on rock radio during the 70's,graduated in the mid-80's and began performing live on a regular basis. He has been playing guitar and bass 48+ years, but has also been known to hold down the groove on the drums. In 1999, Sean started working for Guitar Center. Through the years, his knowledge of musical gear has become unsurpassed, primarily with guitars and effects.He came highly recommended by a close friend to tryout for an 80's New Wave/ Pop/Rock Supergroup in Houston called The Chromatics.After one audition, he got the gig playing lead guitar for The Chromatics July of 2006. He continued with them until 2018. In 2009, he started pursuing side projects to expand musically which included some studio work, high profile live music venues, corporate shows, church praiseband, acoustic solos/duos and local open mics. He still works for Guitar Center today. In 2019, he began his latest endeavor as a cover based solo performer which he still continues to do today.

Annette is a multi-instrumentalist who had her first lessons at 4 years old. Her parents saw her pull the tupperware out from under the kitchen sink to make a DIY drum set, and the rest is history.Starting with ukulele, Annette went on to learn piano, voice, viola, double bass, guitar, trombone, and drums. She has played in bands such as Angela & the Xs (drums), and Branagan (guitar) that have opened for groups like The Ataris, Fea, Off With Their Heads, Girl in a Coma, and many more. She has recorded an album, an EP, and has experience with live sound and studio recording. She enjoys live action role playing, camping, writing songs about random things, and making music with found objects.

Ian had a very early interest in music. He sang and danced to his favorite movies from a young age. At age 11 he got his first guitar and started playing clarinet in his 6th grade band. He later played guitar in his high school jazz band and joined his high school choir.Since then, Ian has learned drums, piano/keys and bass guitar, all the while continuing to further his knowledge and abilities on the electric guitar. His clarinet playing took him to local and regional solo contests, northwest area honor bands, and all over Europe.Ian loves sharing his knowledge about the guitar and helping others learn more about music. Some of Ian's favorite musicians/bands are The Beatles, Queen, Rush, Eric Whitacre, and 3 Inches of Blood.

Mike feels fortunate to have performed and recorded with many bands and artists and greatly enjoys being in the pocket. As an instructor, Mike hopes to inspire developing drummers to hone their craft and explore their creativity. While performing, Mike’s highest aspiration is to make the audience dance!

Gabriel Medina has been involved with the School Of Rock program for the better part of seven years now and has enjoyed his time in it ever since. As a seasoned performer, Gabriel has had the benefit and honor to play and experiment in the many genres and shows he has been involved in during his time at School of Rock Champion Forest. Gabriel officially started his musical journey in the sixth grade picking up keyboard, primarily because of his love of 8-bit video game obsession. After a short break from the keys, Gabriel would come back to pick up the guitar and from there he took off, it wasn’t very long until he added vocals to his musical ability. Gabriel studied jazz throughout high school and this has influenced the way he plays guitar, and has benefited him with his improv ability and musical literacy.

As soon as LJ was able to talk, they began singing. LJ was in the car with their mom listening to gospel music and heard a song that captured their heart. That is when LJ's love for music was born.

LJ's music teachers cultivated that passion. They were in marching band during high school, which opened the door for them to start playing other wind instruments. They were then in the band at Prairie View A&M University, participating in numerous brass ensembles. LJ played trombone in church and directed a wind instrument band there. They grew up performing and exploring various instruments on the church stage. Their love for drums also came from church. The music director and pastor supported their musical creativity.

Willie plays drums, bass guitar, piano and sings. Willie began playing drums at the age of 6 and played his first professional gig at the age of 13. Soon after, he played at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York City. In his high school years, he won many jazz competitions with the band at Kashmere High School. Willie ended up getting a full scholarship to Texas Southern University for marching band. He played snare drum for the Ocean of Soul marching band for two years, and during that time, he fell in love with playing the bass guitar.

Two years into learning the bass, he played his first gig on bass at a little blues bar called Emitt's Place. He has been constantly learning, practicing and playing on the bass ever since. In 2018, he was blessed to be able to work at the School of Rock Sugar Land. He uses the knowledge he's gained to teach future musicians.
