Fall 2016 - Show Choices
All show rehearsals begin the week of 9/26

MOTOWN
Mondays from 5pm to 8pm, directed by Seger and Justin
Final Performance is 1/14/17 at Moe's BBQ

Detroit, Michigan.  Motor City, USA.  This is the birthplace of the wildly popular genre of Motown and its eponymous record label (Motown Records). This fall, we are going back to the 60's with a tribute to artists such as Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Jackson 5, and The Temptations. There will be challenging parts for every instrument.  This show is all about groove and attitude!  There will be plenty of extra percussion (congas, bongos, tambourine, cowbell) as well as great vocal harmonies.  Bonus points if you can play horns!

PROG ROCK
Wednesdays from 5pm to 8pm, directed by Alex and Taylor
Final Performance is 1/15/17 at the Hi-Dive

In the 1970s, bands such as Genesis, Yes, Rush, Jethro Tull, and King Crimson were inspired by the psychedelic sounds of the late 60s and sought to give more artistic weight to rock music. Many of the songs in this "progressive rock" movement were 10-20 minutes long and feature complex instrumentations. More modern artists such as Umphrey's McGee, The Mars Volta and Coheed and Cambria have kept the genre alive and evolving. This show is ADVANCED and will have VERY challenging parts for every instrumentalist and vocalist.  Students can expect to play fewer (but longer and more difficult) songs than a typical SoR show.

WOMEN IN ROCK
Thursdays from 5pm to 8pm, directed by Steve and Jennifer
Final Performance is 1/22/17 at 3 Kings Tavern

This fall we will pay tribute to the countless female rockers that have been turning the music industry upside down for decades!  From Patti Smith to Stevie Nicks and Joan Jett to Janis Joplin, this show will span a HUGE variety of decades and styles.  Other important bands within this show's theme include Alabama Shakes, Heart, Paramore, The Pretenders, Blondie, and No Doubt. This show will feature songs appropriate for all instruments and ability levels. This show is an obvious choice for female singers!
